I’m like a broken record when it comes to declaring my love for wearing white, so I’ll spare you that song—for now. Although I live for dressing in neutrals, I recognize that looks can sometimes fall flat if there isn’t some sort of interesting detail or design. A few of my favorite design elements are embroidery, cutouts, unique stitching, and exposed zippers, among others. I also think these design elements contribute to the illusion that they’re more expensive, so when you’re shopping at more affordable stores keep your eyes peeled for these added details.

This dress from Tiare Hawaii is the perfect example of a classic design that’s instantly elevated by detailed design elements. The intricate cutouts make this dress a full-on statement piece, that otherwise may not have been considered much more than a swimsuit cover up. This particular day, I wore it with a pair of high-waist bikini bottoms underneath (my usual go-to), but I also love throwing it over another slip dress to make it a little less revealing. For a more casual look, you could layer it over a band tee & some straight leg jeans. Given there are so many cutouts, you still get to see a lot of your shirt & denim. I’m always trying to find new ways to style my ultra “girly” dresses with a more tomboy comfy vibe.
I hope this inspires you to look for some interesting neutral items. Color is cool and all, but just remember—gray can be just as fun with the right details! As always, sending lots of tropical vibes your way!
